Setting up a panel for continuous discovery
To support the research objective to understand attitudes towards travel in a post-covid era, BBC R&D identified a need to continuously gather thoughts from a range of audiences, which might go beyond any neat use cases identified by product teams.
This proved to be a great way to test out new research methods with groups who built the capacity to understand why this research was needed, and their role in the research over time, and to embrace open dialogue in a safe space.
How did we do this?
Recruited and convened 20 people from a representative range of backgrounds
Posed future-thinking questions as pre-session surveys
Used responses to build future horizon scanning activities
Designed future facing newspaper headlines to support debate
Shared daily routines and favourite journeys through ethnography
Tasked participants with designing solutions to meet each others needs
Whole group evaluation of ideas using cultural probes to bring ideas to life
Regular reporting of findings to project teams, to inform continuous discovery
